Tenor and music educator Malcolm Cooper has performed professionally with a variety of professional choirs and ensembles, such as the Baltimore Choral Arts Society, The Bridge Ensemble, the Baltimore Concert Opera, The Princeton Singers, The Mastersingers of Wilmington, The Chamber Choir of Europe, the Grammy-winning choir “The Crossing,” based in Philadelphia, The Cherry Hill Men’s Chorus, and the World Choir for Peace. He holds a Bachelors degree in Music Education from the University of Delaware, and a Masters degree in Vocal Performance from Indiana University. Malcolm currently appears regularly as a soloist and chorister at churches, synagogues, and other music venues in the Greater Philadelphia area.
As an active recording artist, Malcolm’s first solo professional CD appearance was as the tenor soloist of Ganesh B. Kumar’s Shanmuga Kavacham, was released in November, 2016 on the Hänssler Classics label. The recording features the award-winning Chamber Choir of Europe, under the direction of maestro Nicol Matt. Malcolm sang tenor with the choir and served as the Assistant Conductor of that group for their CD recording of “Light Eternal: The Music of Morten Lauridsen,” which was released worldwide on the Deutsche Grammophon label in October, 2018. Malcolm also appears as both chorister and soloist with the World Choir for Peace on their new Sony Classical album “Peaceful Choir”, now streaming on Spotify and Apple Music.
Malcolm serves on the executive committee of The Cherry Hill Men’s Chorus, where he is currently serving a term as Vice President of the Board. Malcolm serves on the board of the World Choir for Peace, with duties focused on social media, communications, and fundraising.
Malcolm’s past operatic and oratorio roles include Mayor Upfold in Albert Herring (Britten), Alfred in Die Fledermaus (J. Strauss II), and 2nd Israelite in Esther (Handel).
